Dr. Simone Schmidt is a political scientist with a focus on media and discourse analysis of socially relevant issues. She earned her degree in Social Sciences from Humboldt University of Berlin, combining European Studies and media analysis in her thesis “The Construction of European Identity.” She completed her PhD in International Relations at Freie Universität Berlin with a discourse analysis of the Iraq War (“Identity Rhetorics as (De-)Legitimization Strategies”). Her current research explores how “interpretive authority” (Deutungsmacht) emerges in crisis discourses.
